Good morning …
The lobby is quiet now, but will be busy in about an hour. Going to grab some breakfast and get to work, but first, let’s set you up for the day.
Just like last year, the Mets come to the winter meetings with most of their shopping completed. Their immediate objectives after licking their wounds, was to re-sign Tom Glavine and addressing holes at second base and left field. All were accomplished, with the last two by bringing back Jose Valentin and signing Moises Alou.
Even so, they’d like to add another starter, but rather than overpaying for Barry Zito, they might me more inclined to make a trade. GM Omar Minaya likes Chicago’s Javier Vazquez. With Chad Bradford, Darren Oliver and Roberto Hernandez gone, they also need to bulk up their bullpen depth.
Infielder Julio Lugo is still on their radar, but after signing Damion Easley, there’s no urgency there.
