Not that they did anything today anyway, but the Mets say they are shutting it down for the night. Willie Randolph is in the lobby schmoozing, and the last I saw of Omar Minaya is that he was hanging with Tommy Lasorda.
Randolph will hold court tomorrow when the managers are made available. That will be a chance to ask him about his contract. Minaya said there’s no rush, but I wonder what Randolph thinks about that.
One last news nugget before calling it a night, is that Giants GM Brian Sabean said the team is interested in Barry Bonds. He said there was a perception they weren’t because they were involved in other business. Like trying to sign Alfonso Soriano or Carlos Lee, and trade for Manny Ramirez. Those guys, incidentally, play left field. Same position as Bonds, I think.
