OK, so it’s early and a hunch, but I’m liking the Rangers early in the Barry Zito Sweepstakes. “If Mr. Hicks wants something, he usually gets it,” is the prevailing thinking about Rangers owner Tom Hicks, the man who gave A-Rod $252 million.
The AL West is a very winnable division, and the Rangers have plenty of offense, but are weak on the mound. Zito might be enough to put them over the top.
The Mets have the money Scott Boras is asking, but I don’t think Omar Minaya will bite on the six years. That’s a big risk. All those innings add up, and it’s not a stretch to think something will happen midway through the deal.
