Realizing their vulnerability in the bullpen, the Mets offered arbitration to relievers Guillermo Mota and Roberto Hernandez. Doing so ensures a compensatory draft pick.
Reportedly, Hernandez is close to a deal with Cleveland. He seemed to fall out of favor during the postseason.
The Mets probably won’t have any competition for Mota, who will miss the first 50 games next season on suspension for violating MLB’s substance abuse policy.
Arbitration has not been offered to outfielder Cliff Floyd, infielder Chris Woodward and pitcher Steve Trachsel.
