The Mets promised Tom Glavine they wouldn’t pick up their club option and leave him alone to think about his future. Glavine said it would be the Mets or Braves, but so far nothing resembling an offer is coming his way from Atlanta.
The agent, Gregg Clifton, said a decision will be made prior to the winter meetings. If that’s true, then it looks like Glavine will return to the Mets. Then again, the winter meetings is when things get done so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Clifton talk face to face with Braves GM John Schuerholz. So, I’m not holding Clifton to delivering his client to the Mets in the next four days.
“He can’t even evaluate that they really want him if he doesn’t have an offer,” Clifton said. “The bottom line is, we’re waiting to see if Atlanta wants to make a proposal to us. … We’re waiting for John to give us a call if he would like to.”
Clifton then went on praise the Mets patience and said it was working to their advantage.
