The Mets are talking with Moises Alou, and that could come down today. However, the team isn’t expected to exercise $14 million option on Tom Glavine, instead offering $3 million buyout making him a free agent. His agent Gregg Clifton said something should get done after Thanksgiving and before winter meetings.
We shall see.
If they get Alou, they can use Lastings Milledge for trade bait. Alou, it seems, would also end a need to re-sign Cliff Floyd.

I know Tom needs to speak with Atlanta and see what they offer, but he owes the Mets a speedy decision all things considered.
Hopefully the right decidion will be made…
keep em crossed..
decision..
wow
8-10 for 20hr and not even 100 rbi? at least he doest strike out.
nady really was a bargain. and a better fielder too.

I’d love to see the Mets leave Glavine hanging. I’d love to see them go hard after Zito and either Randy Wolf, Jeff Suppan or Ted Lilly. Glavine doesn’t want to be here and that being the case, who needs him.
I think this Alou deal is a big risk and I don’t care for the direction the team has taken in general this offseason. We’re taking on too many older players like Easley, Alou and El Duque even if they are short contracts. All these guys have a tendency to breakdown.

All these deals you mention means it is imperative to sign Glavine, because the window to win is closing. They might have a young core with Wright, Reyes and Beltran, but the complementary players could be gone soon and they won’t have enough. And, nobody knows if their young pitching will pan out.
To Dave …
You are right about Xavier Nady. A lot of times you don’t know what you have until it is gone. If Oliver Perez doesn’t make it, then the deal is a bust.
To Steve C and Anon …
Glavine needs to make his decision shortly. This has dragged on way too long.
yeah. well it could be money or maybe it is convincing the wife that NY is the best place to be …
all for the love /want of a woman the mets have all these woes..
i honestly would like glavine to stay..
I think we are all just being new yorkers.
as a friend of mine says
“dont’t worry”, I think we need to just sit tight.
things will work themselves out. I firmly believe that for various reasons glavine will be here next year and perhaps the year after that.

Keep a good thought. Fact is, the Braves still have to want Glavine for him to leave and there’s no indication that’s the case.
Dave,
yeah and the rest of us just cant get that attitude, its something we aspire too to be able to know it will work out. But i am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It will all work out.. -]
