The early returns are Omar Minaya did it again to the Padres, giving up two non-descript pitchers for two players that could make a contribution.
Jon Adkins, I like, however, take outfielder Ben Johnson with a grain of salt. Two years ago he was the Padres Minor League Player of the Year, and now they trade him. Something happened for his stock to drop like that. Kind of makes one think of Lastings Milledge, wouldn’t you say?
Just because the Mets got another outfielder doesn’t mean Milledge is out the door, but he’s definitely not sitting in the living room with his feet propped up on the coffee table, either. The Mets aren’t saying it publicly because they don’t want to lessen his trade value, but he’s certainly available.
With Barry Zito seeking six years, the Mets might need to go into the trade market for pitching, and Milledge could be the chip.
