Tomorrow is the deadline for teams to sumbit bids for the right to negotiate with Japanese pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. The players seem to be the Yankees, Red Sox and Mets.
Somehow, paying up to $20 million just for the rights to negotiate with Matsuzaka, and pay maybe another $20 million or higher, just doesn’t make any sense. All this for a guy with no track record against major league hitters while practically the entire Cardinals’ rotation is available.
Forty million bucks buys a lot. If it were mine, I’d spread it around rather than give it all to a question mark. Let him go to the Yankees or Boston. Let them make the mistake.
