All right, all right. Call it Lunching with the Mets. Little late today. Had to run some errands.
The NL Gold Glovers will be announced today, and Carlos Beltran is the most likely to snag anything. For the most part, the Mets played solid defense, but outside of Beltran, nothing that you would call scintillating. Off the top of my head, the catch Beltran made in Houston when he crashed into the wall might be the Mets’ defensive play of the year.
I also remember a diving, with-back-to-the-infield, catch by Anderson Hernandez in April. Damn, that seems such a long time ago.
David Wright also made a great play against Philly, but the Beltran plays stands out. Probably because he ended up getting hurt and missing a handful of games.

they need a bench player gold glove.
Endy Freakin Chavez right there.
I second that motion. Endy was off the charts defensively this year. If Rafeal Palmeiro won in ‘99 after only playing a handful of games at first base, and if Derek “Led Feet” Jeter can win in any year, Endy should get an award too.
yeah Endy. too bad post season doesnt count cause that catch he made in the pennant. man o man. Play of the year!
Congrats to Beltran, I think he deserved it this year.
This voting however is an absolute joke, who gets votes for Gold Gloves? Jeter winning was pretty bad, Scott Rolen was even worse. A few years ago yes, this year he was not great. Zimmerman and a few others were clearly better.
They need to make votes public, some folks need to be outed as morons.
To AV …
A bench Gold Glove? Hmm? If there was, Chavez gets it hands down. That was a great play. When he came down with that ball, I thought for sure they were going to win.

The Gold Glove is a lot like going to the Pro Bowl in the NFL …. You get overlooked at first because it’s done on rep … then at the end of your career you go when you really shouldn’t.
