Tom Glavine and the Mets are still talking, and that it has been reported a second year is being discussed can only be looked at as positive news as far as him returning.
That Glavine has not filed is also a positive sign. Players have until Nov. 11 to file. Currently indications are he’s coming back.

I tell you what…we need Glavine back…no doubt about it. But he’s a selfish player. Has been since his first year with the Mets when he’d show up his teammates with his body language on the mound after someone would make an error. This guy is all about his own numbers and getting into the HOF. I read somewhere yesterday he wants the 2 year deal so he can retire a year off from Maddux and go into the HOF on his own.
Like I said, we need him back and I hope he comes back. But if I were Omar I’d bring him back at the one year $14 million option he negotiated. Giving this guy another year at over $10 million is just too much for a pitcher his age…especially one with circulation problems.

I read the same thing you did about Maddux, but I’m not so sure how accurate that is. Who’s to say when either will retire. .... Yeah, right now he’s about winning 300 and being on a winning team.
He’s at an age, where I’d go one year plus an option and not two guaranteed. Giving multi-year deals to 40-something pitchers is always a risk (see Randy Johnson). However, and this is important, the type pitcher (finesse instead of power) could cut the risk.
John,
I agree. one plus one.
Glavine has pitched well. Give him the money he wants as long as he can do it. We can afford it and both sides win.
A win win.
Everyone is happy.
