On one hand, the Cardinals’ second could have been a lot worse. They like to squeeze, so that wasn’t a surprise. Mets weren’t heads-up there. A key to any pitcher winning is shutting down the opposition the inning after given a lead. Yeah, it’s only the second, but who’s expected Perez to last much longer than the fifth?
Perez needed to shut them down there so he could settle into a groove. You have the feeling already that the Cardinals aren’t afraid of him.
