If you told the Mets going in that Tom Glavine would give up only three runs they would have grabbed it. The Mets had their chances early against Jeff Weaver to set the tone of the game, but didn’t when they left runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings.
It’s down to this for the Mets: Their next game is either Game 7 tomorrow night at Shea Stadium with a flip-of-the-coin choice pitcher starting for them or in spring training.
You guys have had faith in the Mets all year. Do you still have it?

John,
you gotta believe.. and it aint over til its over… (he was a met!)
We’ve gone to 7 before and won. so here’s to tonight! hopefully we will get better calls tonight.
John,
Last night was depressing. David Wright needs to relax.
The bottom half of the lineup really misses Cliffy.
We all know about their rotation.
Do or die.
I actually feel more comfortable going against Carpenter than Weaver. Weaver seems to have our number.
Dave
Oh yeah. I really don’t like Ian O’Connor’s articles.
He should just write about Steinbrenners’ team.
Oh wait!
They aren’t playing anymore.
Dave
Hi John –
Yeah, I still have faith.. I survived the 1986 games. However I really think they had more talent than these guys.
And, I still give Willie enormous credit for getting this far and having such a good record in only his second year as manager.
No matter what, it’s still been a Special Season.
I’m nervous…I totally believe that this team is better than the Cards and I totally believe that they can and SHOULD win. The way they’ve been playing though, I sense they are so wound up and pressing that I’m worried they won’t get it done.
Then again, this has been this organization’s history. They do nothing easily. Even our beloved ‘86 mets had to go to extremes and needed a miracle to win. So hopefully this team can do something just as memorable
BTW…John…wanted to get your thoughts on Albert Pujols as a person. Is he really the jerk that he’s seemed to come off as in this series? I’ve been reading that this series has sort of exposed what most of the media in St. Louis knew about him already.
To Steve C. ...
History has been kind to the Mets before in Game 6 … remember 1986. Not that it will help tonight. And, Steve, it’s not the calls. The Mets haven’t been jobbed in this series. They just haven’t hit.
To Dave …
Wright is 2-17 in the series. Only the Carloses have hit with any consistency and power. Sure, they miss Floyd, but the truth is the Mets have been outscored 23-22 in the five games. Just one or two hits by anybody would have made a difference.
To Joan …
If you asked the Mets at the start of the season would they take getting to Game 6 of the NLCS, they would have said yes, no questions asked.
They have gotten further than anybody would have expected.
To RMKMets ….
Your history recollection is right. In 86, they won a Game 6 at Houston to advance. And, they had to win that game because in their minds they had no chance to beat Mike Scott in Game 7.
And, we all know about Game 6 in the Series.
As much as the Mets’ pitching problems have been chronicled, it has been their hitting to let them down.
Two games in this series can be identified as significant, in that had they won they would have taken control of the series. Game 2 and Game 5, and the Mets were ahead in both.
And, about Pujols, I’ve only been exposed to him in group interview settings. He hasn’t come across well in this series. The Cardinal writers say he’s been difficult at times to deal with.
He’s a great player. I sure hope he doesn’t end up like Barry Bonds.
