The Mets aren’t doing what they said they would against Jeff Weaver. I don’t see the patience they preached. Jose Reyes is hitting like he’s double-parked. Their first four hitters reached base in the first and they couldn’t get a run. They left runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, appear to have waited out Tom Glavine, whose already up to 72 pitches through four innings.

With Maine and TBA, it will be tough for the Mets to take the next 2.
Stop jinxing it in the middle of the game!! You’re killing me here!!!
Glav got squeezed the whole night…
and then they gave card pitchers alot of outside and high stuff…(i.e. Valentin in the 8th, Endy in the 9th)
...this will be two tough wins…
The Mets can’t seem to hit Jeff Suppan and Jeff Weaver. These are below average major league pitchers. What is going on? Pitch after pitch after pitch right over the middle of the plate and they’re missing them, fouling them off or popping them up. Poor David Wright looks totally overwhelmed by the pressure(at times). I saw him close his eyes right before one of the pitches. If you saw all the pitches that were fouled off and you didn’t know who was pitching you would think it was Nolan Ryan in his prime. Its so depressing. They were having trouble catching up to 89mph fastballs in some of these ABs. This game was totally disheartening. Something is going on with their mindset at the plate. They are taking too many good pitches, swinging at too many bad pitches and missing the good pitches they are swinging at. Its just so frustrating to watch. The 83-78 Cardinals do not deserve to even be in the playoffs which makes it even more frustrating. I still have hope for them winning 2 at home but this game was tough to watch.
Glav did get squeezed. The called 3rd strike to Valentin with RISP was outside. Lots of bad pitches were called strikes tonight putting the Mets hitters behind in the count.
To JK …
That’s why tonight was essential. The Cards have the pitching match-up edge in each of the next two games. This is two games in the series (Game 2 being the other) where the Mets had the chance to swing the emotional hammer and did not.
To Terrie …
I’d say the only thing killing you right now is the Mets’ offense. They actually pitched well enough to win most games.
To AV …
Yup, real tough. But, the Mets didn’t lose tonight because of the umps. They lost because they didn’t hit in the clutch. 1-8 with runners in scoring position.
To Anon …
Should the Mets go on and lose this series, the reason won’t be their depleted rotation as much as their inability to hit in the clutch.
The Mets could have taken control of this series in Game 2 and again tonight in Game 5, but did not. They just aren’t hitting like they did during the season.
here’s mt take: we got some BAD calls by the UMP! jesus, how many inside outside called strikes were there. what made it worse was my dish kept winking out drove me nuts!
Also, Green he gets me crazy. maybe cause he is tall and lanky but i dont see hustle when he’s going for a ball..
and swinging ugh… but darrel swung the same way very nonchalante..
sigh
here’s to game 7.
