How can we look at this one three innings in?
PITCHING: Oliver Perez has given up two runs on five hits, which would have been a great line after six, not three. I liked that he pitched out of trouble in the first, but not that he let the Cardinals tie it in the third after the Mets took the lead in the top of the inning. Perez needs a couple of scoreless innings to get into his rhythm.
OFFENSE: Carlos Beltran and David Wright went deep, which is an encouraging sign. What I don’t like is stranding four runners already. Anthony Reyes is a guy the Mets should handle. He’s thrown 81 pitches already in the fourth (with Perez at the plate in a bunt situation) and is lucky to be tied, 2-2.
