Oliver Perez worked 5 2/3 innings tonight, which is about what they hoped. He gave up five runs on nine hits, including three homers, which is way more than they expected. But, so far they’ve been saved by the offense, in particular, Carlos Delgado, who has driven in five runs.
Eventually, the offense would have to show up for the Mets to win this series. So far, it has, and it can’t ease up, because the Mets’ pitching in Games 5, 6 and 7, is questionable.
Tom Glavine goes on three days rest tomorrow, and nobody knows what will come of that. John Maine in Game 6, and Steve Trachsel in Game 7, if not Darren Oliver. Nuf said. From here on out, the Mets have to mash.
