The Mets are considering activating Dave Williams for the NLCS at the expense of Oliver Perez. There’s an upside to Perez with his arm, but Williams pitched well in two of three starts against St. Louis this season. Perez was good and bad in two starts against St. Louis, both while with Pittsburgh.
It’s a tough decision. If I’m the Mets I’d go with Williams. He’s not spectacular, but steady. Another thing I’d consider is adding Williams and keeping Perez at the expense of Roberto Hernandez. With Guillermo Mota, Chad Bradford and Aaron Heilman, the Mets have three right-handed options.
My thinking in Perez over Hernandez is the lefthander could make a greater impact, while I’m not sure how much Hernandez would pitch.
