It’s possible the Mets could swap out lefty Dave Williams for lefty Oliver Perez when they put together their NLCS roster. Williams pitched well in two of three starts this season against St. Louis and GM Omar Minaya said that’s something that will merit serious consideration before Game 1.
Cliff Floyd took treatment today, but the Mets still don’t know about is left Achilles. It’s still sore and Minaya said there’s a “risk’’ factor in activating him. If he can’t go, they’ll activate either Ricky Ledee or Lastings Milledge.
Neither are game breakers who figure to get much time as Endy Chavez will start. In handicapping the two, Ledee has more experience, but Milledge might have a bigger upside if he takes that attitude off his shoulder. Neither contributed to the point where you can say, “take this guy.’’
Minaya also said the tightness in Carlos Beltran’s upper abdominal region is improving. Minaya also said he didn’t see the Mets carrying three catchers. Twelve or 11 pitchers is still an issue.
