If there is a rule in the playoffs, it is to always go for the throat. We’re a few hours from gametime, and there’s little doubt the Mets have Yankees-Tigers on the TV. The Yankees let the Tigers off the hook in Game 2, and now they trail in the early innings of the game that could end their season.
You’d better believe the Mets are paying attention.
Championship teams have a killer instinct, the ability to put teams away when
they are down. It’s a huge day for the Mets today in that regard. They want to put the Dodgers away and avoid having to go to Oliver Perez tomorrow and possibly a winner-to-take all Game 5 Monday.
Funny how these things work out. The guy who could clinch it for them is Steve
Trachsel, who took so much heat during the season. He won 15 during the season and was brilliant in the clincher. This winter could turn out to be a big pay day for him.
Also, with the physical uncertainties surrounding Pedro Martinez and Orlando Hernandez, he could end up back here. My thinking was the Mets would give him a token offer, but that could have changed.
