Was heading to Shea this morning when I got the news Orlando Hernandez was done for the NL Division Series. A Grade 2 tear of the right calf, they said. John Maine, as projected here, early and often yesterday, will get the start.
Hernandez won’t be on the Division Series roster, so the Mets will carry 12 pitchers. Oliver Perez and Royce Ring are two names that are the beneficiaries of the injuries to Hernandez and Pedro Martinez.
The Mets did not say, however, whether Hernandez was done for the entire playoffs.
Here’s the roster breakdown:
PITCHERS (12): Chad Bradford, Pedro Feliciano, Tom Glavine, Aaron Heilman, Roberto Hernandez, John Maine, Guillermo Mota, Darren Oliver, Oliver Perez, Royce Ring, Steve Trachsel, Billy Wagner.
CATCHERS (2): Paul Lo Duca, Ramon Castro.
INFIELDERS (6): Carlos Delgado, Julio Franco, Jose Reyes, Jose Valentin, Chris Woodward, David Wright.
OUTFIELDERS (5): Carlos Beltran, Endy Chavez, Cliff Floyd, Shawn Green, Michael Tucker.
