“They have my number, they know how to get me if they want to tell me anything,’’ Tom Glavine just said as he left the Mets’ clubhouse. Maybe he knows, maybe he doesn’t. It would be ideal gamesmanship for Willie Randolph to keep the Dodgers guessing until the end.
Really bizarre … maybe 30 reporters were in the Mets’ clubhouse a little while ago waiting to hear something. To be a fly on the wall in Willie’s office ….
The Mets’ mindset appears to be good. Nobody is saying, “we’re in trouble,’’ then again, they wouldn’t admit it even if they believed it. The mindset is this is just one more thing to overcome. Carlos Beltran did have something interesting to say: “We (as hitters) can’t try to do too much.’’ With Martinez out and possibly Orlando Hernandez, that’s a definite possibility.
How serious is Hernandez? Mets aren’t saying right now, but the longer the wait, the odds are in favor of bad news. If it was just a cramp, we would have known by now. Right now, three people know how serious this is: the doctors, GM Omar Minaya and Hernandez. Nothing has been announced.
