As I write this, Orlando Hernandez is on his way to the hospital to get an exam on his right calf. Hernandez felt something in his right calf jogging in the outfield. Manager Willie Randolph said, “we’ll wait and see … it might be a cramp,’’
The Mets should be so lucky.
The Mets say they have options, but do they really?
- Tom Glavine: Saturday’s starter would be pitching on short rest.
- Steve Trachsel: Left the team over the weekend to attend to family business and it isn’t know how much he threw, or if at all. He was supposed to start Sunday.
- John Maine: Friday’s starter would be going on normal rest, but do they want to go with him in Game 1? My feeling is if they were going to start him at all, then Game 1 shouldn’t matter. If anything, if he gets ripped there’s time to recover.
- Dave Williams: It has been a while since he started, so I’m ruling him out.
I’ll be back later with more. For now, I have to get back to the clubhouse.
