There are a couple of ways to look at tonight, the first being that after the emotions of the previous day that the Mets were due for an emotional let down but did not cave, even after the Cardinals rallied late.
The second is this was a lot harder than it should have been. When your starter gets a 10-2 lead, he has to give you more than the five innings Steve Trachsel did. Trachsel is now tied for the NL lead with 13 wins, but the Mets won tonight in spite of him and not because of him.
With the questions in their rotation, the Mets need Trachsel to be more consistent. He got away with one tonight.
