With the positive news on Tom Glavine this afternoon, what’s your confidence level now on the Mets?
Mine hasn’t shaken. The next few games, even if Glavine were history, would have told a better tale. But for me, since mid-season, I predicted the pennant and a good run but maybe not the series. I am standing with that, the Mets have WON it all with less and have lost it all with More. .
Yes i can! On my way home i was thinking about this whole Pedro and Glavine issue and i had a sick feeling in my stomach about the upcoming october and the first playoff apperance of our beloved mets.
Now our Future looks much brighter.
By the way, great blog! I’m a daily reader.
When I first realized he might miss the rest of the season, I was in the minority but I found a certain amount of confidence in Pedro, Trax, Duque, Maine, and Bannister. Although Glavine’s been great this year, I was leery about how strong he could finish the season. So to have someone like Bannister step in, fresh was reassuring. Now with Glavine back, I would hope Willie leverages Bannister’s ability and presence which will allow for more rest for Glavine. A rested Glavine is a strong Glavine for postseason.
The thing everyone keeps forgetting is that since that really good run he had, Glavine has been generally shaky and pretty hittable for a good number of his last few starts…and it’s not like he’s always been lights out in the postseason either. Was a I worried? Yes…but I felt the team would have been able to manage even without him. Now that we know he won’t be lost for the year, that’s great news but I can’t say my feelings about the playoffs had changed at all.
