Lastings Milledge, Endy Chavez and Michael Tucker make up the corner outfield spots for the Mets these days. Milledge is a prospect with holes in his game; Chavez has played well, but is a reserve; and Tucker is a role player. With Cliff Floyd injured, the Mets figure to enter the postseason with a hole, both defensively and at the plate. They are talking about Shawn Green, who isn’t the player he once was, but a better option than what they have now.
Two weeks later and on the surface the Xavier Nady trade doesn’t look so good. Roberto Hernandez has been so-so at best. The key is if Oliver Perez turns into anything, and they won’t know that until next year. If then. For the immediate future, at least, they could use Nady.

The Nady deal is looking more and more like deadline panic move every day. At the time, in the frenzy of the trade deadline, it was like, “Well, Omar had to do something with Sanchez out,” but in retrospect, with the size lead they had, they could’ve waited to find a better way to fill the hole without creating another.
Hindsight is 20/20, obviously . . .

You are right about hindsight. But I said before the fact that I would have traded Milledge for pitching. Looks like they need it now.
You have no idea what you are talking about! You are serverly underating vets Chavez and Tucker and I feel Lastings will turn into a player who can deal with pressure by the end of the season. Oliver Perez has been pitching great lately and he WILL get called up now that glavine went down. But the Zito trade would have helped

hey John,
Milledge, some holes? If he hit better I would liken him to Dave KingMan. He or Miss Dave.

Thanks for giving me that the Zito deal would have helped. Chavez has played well, I’ll give you that, but he and Tucker have bounced around and are reserves for a reason.
That being the more they play the more weaknesses they show.
As for Milledge, you have more faith in him than I do.
And, for Perez, your definition of great and mine are different. He’s 0-2 with a 6.05 ERA for Norfolk. I have been writing him as a possibility not because he’s tearing things up, but because there aren’t many other options.

Holes is trying to be polite.
