Not perfect, but there was a lot to like about this afternoon:
- When a team gets pushed around like the Mets did in the first three games, you want to see a sign of fight to cut the funk short. The Mets showed that today. Big moment was when they answered Ryan Howard’s homer in fourth with the two Carloses going back-to-back in the fifth. They never let the Phillies gather any sustantial momentum.
- Carlos Delgado drove in four with two homers, a triple and sac fly. The sac fly was hit on a line to left, one of the homers was to center. For a pull hitter, that’s a sign of waiting on a pitch. A real positive sign.
- John Maine continues to impress. He regains composure after giving up Howard’s homer and gets out of jam in sixth. Tom Glavine said he’s crossed the line from “wanting to do well to expecting to win.’’
What’s not to like is Jose Valentin’s strained right hamstring. He said he doesn’t think he will play Friday.

Carlos Delgado hit a triple?? I find that hard to believe. Now I really have a reason to watch the replay on SNY tonight.
He really did … I wouldn’t have believed it if I didn’t see it myself.
