Waiting on word on Pedro Martinez, but wondering why. With their lead and six weeks remaining in the season the Mets have the luxury of shutting down Martinez and getting him ready for the playoffs.
Time, however, is fleeting. If Martinez comes back and gives the Mets three or four starts before breaking down again, then they might not get the chance to rehab him for the playoffs. Of course, there’s no guarantee if they shut him down now that he won’t break down later, but the odds would swing in their favor.
