You take what you can get, and for the Mets in tonight’s 4-1 loss to the Florida Marlins it was six strong innings from Pedro Martinez in his second start since coming down with food poisoning. Pitching will determine how far the Mets go into October, and it won’t be far without Martinez.
That made tonight important.
“He was dominant tonight,’’ catcher Paul Lo Duca said. “This is a good sign for us.’’
Martinez said he’s not 100 percent with his stamina, but that he was satisfied with how he held up on a hot night. Martinez struck out nine in six innings.
