- You saw the value of Duaner Sanchez by his absence. If he’s here, then Aaron Heilman works the seventh (he’s been strong in his last couple of appearances) and Sanchez the eighth. Or they flip. Either way, three relievers aren’t used.
- Second, is no lead is safe with Steve Trachsel. Up 6-0, he’s got to get through the sixth inning and not give up those two homers. Or at least only one. With the bullpen unsettled the starters have to get into the seventh. Remember the less innings a bullpen works the better.
- Third, we all know there are some pitching holes. That means the offense has to pick it up. The Mets left 10 tonight, including the ninth when it loaded the bases with no outs.
- Finally, there’s a little bit of Mitch Williams in Billy Wagner. It’s never going to be easy.
August 03: Post-Game: Whew, had them all the way
