The Mets were hoping Duaner Sanchez could get by with rest and therapy, but torn ligaments prevented that and he’s undergoing shoulder surgery as I write this. He’s gone for the year and Omar Minaya is saying he should be ready for spring training.
That doesn’t do much good for the Mets now. They traded for Roberto Hernandez and he’s been a reliable arm, but the key in all this might be Aaron Heilman. He has not pitched well for much of the past two months, and has to step it up now.
Lastings Milledge is back and he’ll get the bulk of the playing time and there won’t be a platoon with Endy Chavez.
Here’s Mets’ lineup vs. Marlins tonight:
SS Jose Reyes
C Paul Lo Duca
CF Carlos Beltran
1B Carlos Delgado
3B David Wright
2B Jose Valentin
LF Cliff Floyd
RF Lastings Milledge
RHP Mike Pelfrey

Hey John,
Just curious, are you in South Florida for this one? If so it’s probably the one time when New York is hotter than Miami.
Well keep cool anyways.
Hi JR …
Funny you should mention it. Several of us were talking about how this is one of the few times we would leave NY for Florida and be cooler.
Hi John – Still 92 degrees now here – and no ocean breezes. AC humming…...
Keep an eye on Lastings for me – it’s a radio night.
Hi Joan …
Milledge has walked three times which is a good sign as far as being patient at the plate, but he was tentative on a line drive in the first inning that led to Florida’s first run.
Hi John –
Thanks for the Lastings info (I fell asleep before the game was over) I know he’s a ‘five tools’ player and has a big future here, but the spoiled brat attitude has got to go. What I’m hoping is that the prevailing ‘all for one’ attitude of the Mets clubhouse will take over. Doesn’t David Wright have several younger brothers, and isn’t Willie the father of sons? They will know what to do.
I read an account of Sanchez’ accident in the taxi on I-95. 20 years ago when I lived in Plantation (Ft.Laud suburb) a popular bumper sticker read: ‘Pray For Me, I drive I-95’. Apparently nothing’s changed.
Here in CT the primary politics are running wild – to that end, today’s visiting pols are: Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. And, Lamont was on TV with Colbert yesterday. The primary is August 8th and right now it’s too close to call.
I won’t make any Billy Wagner comments, but I’d like to.—>
