With Pedro Martinez ailing and a question as a fifth starter, the Mets can’t afford any breakdowns elsewhere in the their rotation. They haven’t gotten any from Trachsel, who won his seventh straight decision today, 6-3, over the Chicago Cubs.
Trachsel has taken heat because he does get into trouble on the mound, but he’s been the Mets’ most consistent starter over the last month-and-a-half.
Three of his wins followed a loss.
Beltran update: Carlos Beltran said he aggravated a tendinitis condition in his right knee when he stepped in a hole in the first inning. He stayed in the game, but left after the fifth when it stiffened during a 45-minute rain delay.
