Greetings from Chicago, where the deep dish is superb.
Mets worked out at Wrigley today, another baseball gem if you’re looking out at the ivy or watching on TV. Inside the concourses, however, another story. Small, cramped and dirty. A lot like Fenway. If they could only find a way to put the charm in with the modern comforts.
The Mets worked out today. Jose Reyes is expected to sit tonight, and might again Saturday. Pedro Martinez got some sort of bug in the Dominican, and there’s no word on when he’ll throw in the pen, much less in a game. Willie Randolph said Martinez will make the call, but the inclination is Steve Trachsel will go Wednesday in Cincy and Tom Glavine Thursday, which leaves Martinez a week from today at the earliest. Mike Pelfrey goes Tuesday.
The writers were kidding David Wright that since he’s a hot all-star now he’ll big time us, but he gave it right back. “Hey, who are you guys?” he said. He’s had a great week and everybody is happy for him not because he’s good, but because he’s a good guy.
