What does your gut tell you about Mike Pelfrey? Can he be something special this year?
probably not,but if he can give some quality start(s) id live with that this year.i guess ideally if he can give jaret wright type performance, say 5-6 innings 1-3 runs. For some reason jaret wright is who I think pelfrey reminds me of,pelfrey throws harder, but neither one of them have great breaking stuff. I think if his fastball can work as a good sinker,he can get some groundouts and work from there
Great post … in the short term, what you have described the Mets would take in a heartbeat for a No. 5. Five innings, it would seem, is the key number because it places only a minimal drain on the pen.
I’d agree w/ the first post – probably not an impact pitcher for the NYM this season. Unless the Mets starting rotation suffers more injuries or lack of performance, Maine is probably the guy unless he goes Soler on us. Given Pelfrey’s upside being higher than Maine/Bannister, letting him develop his 2nd/3rd pitches in AA/AAA is probably smarter in the long run.
