- Carlos Beltran missed 10 games in April with a hammy problem, but was on the active list. They didn’t lose any ground.
- Brian Bannister’s hamstring is worse than originally diagnosed. His comeback stalled and nobody knows when he’ll pitch again.
- Cliff Floyd missed 10 games with an ankle sprain before he went on the DL. They were lucky and won eight straight during that span.
Now Martinez is hurting. He’s supposed to throw in the pen tomorrow, and then they’ll make a decision on one of the games in Saturday’s doubleheader or the DL. Wrong, wrong, 45 times wrong. DL him now, and use the start to find out about Mike Pelfrey or Aaron Heilman. Martinez is at the stage of his careeer where he can’t have enough rest, and with a NYC-sized pothole for the fifth spot in the rotation, they should be looking at any option other than Jose Lima.
Lima is one of these guys that hitters catch up with the second time through the order. I’d give Heilman another shot at the rotation and try Lima out of the pen. Lima starting? Been there, done that _ and done it poorly.
