Willie Randolph said Pedro Martinez will throw in the pen, and if his bum hip isn’t burning he could start before the All-Star break. Why?
One of the advantages of having an 11-game lead is it affords you the luxury of resting injured players. Martinez is at the point of his career where there is a premium on rest and the Mets have a chance to steal 10 days of it with him missing only one start.
This should be a no-brainer. Shut him down for the rest of the first half. His hip is sore now. Why push the envelope?
