How sweet would that be? Damn, that would be a prime-time pick-up. But, it’s not happening. The Braves are in a freefall THIS YEAR. That doesn’t mean they will be next year. They’ve won 14 titles in a row. It just won’t be 15. John Schuerholz is just too good a GM to let that organization go down the toilet.
As great a fantasy as getting Smoltz would be, consider this: Why would the Braves trade him within the division? This isn’t Tom Glavine, who left on his own. It would be Atlanta willingly trading him to a team they play 18 times a year. That could be five or six times a year they’d be facing Smoltz.
