The Mets won eight straight. Now they’ve lost two. No reason to get excited, but I’m sure there will be a lunatic fringe on the call-in shows tonight screaming for Willie Randolph’s head, just as they did last night. Can’t understand it.
It’s June. Two in a row is no big deal.
By the way, I didn’t like the Kris Benson deal then and I don’t like it now. Never trade a pitcher with the potential to throw 200-plus innings for a reliever on a three-year, downhill skid. They lost the deal, plain and simple.
I’m sure, if they were to have gotten 20 starts from Benson the way he pitched against them tonight they would have gladly taken Anna in the Santa Claus suit.
