With the way the Mets are playing it’s hard imagining they won’t see October. Carlos Delgado says there’s a “hunger’’ on this team driving all the talent.
I don’t know how far they’ll go, but I’m sold, too. I think they’ll see the playoffs. They are not only playing well, but seem to have a charmed existence. Teams that lose the back end of their rotation don’t usually build on their leads.
The Mets didn’t just beat the Phillies here, they dominated. They said all the right things about respect, about there being a lot of time left. They pointed to history and the calendar and were right.
“You certainly sleep better when you’re 9.5 games up,’’ GM Omar Minaya said.
They said this week wasn’t about sending messages, but you’d better believe the Phillies got one.
Post-game notes: Better believe Lastings Milledge was spoken to about showing up late. GM Omar Minaya said there was no fine. … They scored four in the first to become the third team in history to score in the first inning of eight straight road games. … The Mets tied the club record with their eighth consecutive road win.
I’m heading for the Jersey Turnpike. Talk with you later.
