The Mets are on a big time roll after routing Arizona by 13 runs today. They head into Philly with a nice lead of 6.5 games but what you have to like best is David Wright saying it can almost get halved with a bad week. The point is the Mets have their eye on the prize and that’s the best attitude to have at this point.
They haven’t won anything yet, and realizing that says a lot of this team’s maturity. There are a lot of things to like about the Mets, and that sense of purpose is one of them.
One thing not to like, or at least be concerned with, is Pedro Martinez’s right big toe. He said it’s bothering him again. The Mets went almost seven weeks without him winning, but that’s not the same as being without him period. During that stretch, Martinez kept the Mets in the game and ate innings. Who’s going to do that if he’s down for any period of time?
Red flag? Damn right it is.

Love your blog John…you offer great insights that and really give us Met fans a good behind the scenes look at what so far has been a special season. Thanks and keep it up!
Hi John –
What a ride for the Mets these days – wonder if jealousy is what is causing the Yankee mess. It should be.
I’m one who still likes Willie and thinks he is doing a good job. Somehow with all the veterans and the ‘divas’ he’s got them happy and playing like kids.
Never, ever thought I’d see El Duque as a Big Brother type, but he’s doing it as is Cliff Floyd, Carlos Delgado, Franco and even Pedro and these kids are responding.
Joan, I’m curious. Who are all these divas of which you speak? Sorry, I don’t see any on the Mets team that I root for.
