It’s not as if the Mets lost their confidence over the weekend, but they certained got a reaffirmation of it tonight with Alay Soler.
With their bullpen torn and frayed, Soler gave them seven strong, which bullpen coach Guy Conti, said, “that’s so important for us.”
Willie Randolph didn’t want to use Aaron Heilman or Duaner Sanchez tonight and didn’t have to. It’s breathers like that which could pay off down the stretch. No Met reliever is going to make a big deal about his workload, in fact, Billy Wagner seemed a little miffed he wasn’t used, but breaks are nice.
You also have to feel good that Carlos Delgado showed signs of snapping out of his slump with a couple of hits, including a homer.
Just one game, sure … but it was more important than that.
