Greetings night owls from LA, where it seems my hotel is just a short flight from the airport. I tried to post during my layover in Cleveland, but it was tight and couldn’t make it.
All I had time for was a quick call to Brian Heyman, who was covering the Mets today. Brian might be The Journal News’ MVP. He covers just about everything for us.
Anyway, he filled me in on Lastings Milledge’s victory lap.
I’ve known Willie Randolph for almost 10 years now and I know he wasn’t happy with Milledge. Sure, he’s excited, but you have to act like you’ve been there before.
Keith Hernandez said the other day teams hated the ‘86 Mets because they carried themselves with a swagger that bordered on cockiness. These Mets have confidence, but not to where they aggravate people. What Milledge did could tick off teams. It’s hard enough as it is without getting everybody in the league mad at you.
Well, it was a long flight and I’m beat. Time to call it a night. I’ll get back to you in the morning.
