Had Friday night’s game not been rained out, Tom Glavine would have been in line to start Wednesday in LA. It still might happen.
“I told them I wanted to go short if it means not disrupting things,” said Glavine, tonight’s starter in Game 2. He’s going for career No. 284.
The Mets are thinking about this only because with an off day next Monday, Glavine would get an extra day of rest.
However, the Mets won’t baby Glavine tonight to set up his next start. If he has a couple of tough innings that run up his pitch count, the Mets’ second option could be Darren Oliver followed by Heath Bell, and their third could be bringing up John Maine from the minors.
