The Cardinals’ new place looks pretty nice. The press box is pretty high … it seems like you’re at eye level with the Gateway Arch.
They call it the new Busch Stadium. But, there are remnants of the old place. There’s the Stan Musial statue and within the concourse surrounding the stadium there are granite steppingstones engraved with key dates in Cardinals history.
It is always great when the new places recognize their team’s history. No sport seems to appreciate its history as much as baseball, and to walk around and see notations of Bob Gibson, Lou Brock and Jack Buck.
The old place had smaller statues of Gibson, Brock, Ozzie Smith, Red Schoendienst and Enos Slaughter. They are still working on the stadium. A section of seats will be open at the next home stand, and the smaller statues are to be installed in a plaza behind center field.
Time to run … clubhouse to open in a few minutes. I’ll leave you with tonight’s starting lineup.
