Got some comments today on Billy Wagner’s use of “Enter Sandman” as his signature song.
There are bigger issues in baseball, but my immediate take is Rivera is too much his own man to be bothered by something so trivial. Wagner said something along the lines of the world won’t fall apart if both use the same song.
Wagner admitted he knew Rivera used the tune, but didn’t seem concerned he was ruffling any feathers.
Yeah, yeah, you can make the argument the Mets shouldn’t try to copy the Yankees, but truth is I don’t think anybody in management schooled Wagner on the topic. Personally, I think they have better things to do with their time.
Another argument is this: Why should the Yankees even care? After 26 World Series rings, four of which were helped won by Rivera, they should be secure enough in their own history to not even notice.
They should take it as imitation being the most sincere form of flattery.
Thanks for writing in. I always enjoy hearing from my readers. Stay in touch on any topic you wish.
