Roger Clemens goes tonight for Team USA in the WBC, and this isn’t the first time the pre-game buzz is whether this will be his last game.
I’m saying no.
Yeah, I hear the argument he has nothing to play for, but it’s not true. Not only does he have a lot left in the tank, but there are still destinations on the career map.
A full spring training with his son is key. Plus, he’s too much a competitor to not to try for another ring. He says he doesn’t pay attention to the numbers, but that’s not all together true. Clemens is very tuned into his spot in history and the more numbers the merrier.
Point is, he’s still very good at what he does and competitors like him find it difficult to walk away.
I’m betting he won’t, that he’ll take some time to collect his thoughts and come back for another year.
Clemens knows he can still do it, and he also knows how embarrassing it would be for him to retire, change his mind, and get lit up when he comes back.
He’s in shape now, so he’s not leaving.
What do you think, should he stay or should he go? _ John
