Well, this certainly is a load off everybody’s mind.
Cliff Floyd received good news on his tests for kidney disease about an hour ago. Something is there because his kidney function level is at 65 percent, but it is a lot better than the 48 percent reading he got on his Mets’ physical.
I’m in the news business, and Floyd’s health is news, but I didn’t, and I know nobody else on the Mets’ beat, wanted to write this from anything less than a positive angle.
Floyd seems like a genuinely good guy, and you root for guys like him, especially on the health front.
The Mets were also all smiles on Pedro Martinez, who threw to hitters for the first time and is tentatively penciled to throw in a game next Thursday or Friday.
If all goes well, five days later he’ll pitch again, but even if he comes out of that with no problems, there’s no way he makes Opening Day.
But, at least they have an idea, which is something they didn’t have a few weeks ago.
